Sale...1 week to go!

Hi Everyone!

I've been so busy working and getting ready for this weekends show. Here's a peek at what I've been working on and gathering...
This is a vintage telephone operators chair. The woven seat had been removed by someone prior to me. I had a piece of old barn wood made to replace it, and gave it a coat of wax to bring out the character of the old wood.
These crates are marked 'Souhegan Apple Packing Assn. Wilton, NH'
Copies of stunning vintage charcoal drawings

It would be great to see you at the Barn Loft (www.barnloft.blogspot.com) sale this weekend!
Hope you can make it.
Enjoy!

Oh, I almost forgot!  I just had to show you this piece of free furniture I picked up on the side of the road. A bedside table in need of some paint, but solid...
...and I love the hardware! Now what color? Creamy white is safe....but how about a light grey? maybe line the back with a piece of patterned wallpaper? What do you think?

Projects for Upcoming Shows

Hi Everyone!

Yes, I am still here. Sorry I've been negligent of my blog, but you know how it is sometimes...So I'm getting ready for two upcoming shows. The first one is at Barn Loft (www.BarnLoft.blogspot.com) on Sept. 29 & 30 and the second is at Marketplace at Townsend Harbor on October 19, 20 & 21. I've been working on a buffet...
(still in progress, final pictures soon, I promise!)
....lots and lots of lavender sachets....
...and this cute trunk.
When I bought it, someone had spilled/dripped white paint on the top and down the side. First step was to sand that off.
Then I mixed up some paint. I used the Safe Paint from the Old Fashion Milk Paint Company (www.milkpaint.com). Why? Because it's VOC free, organically made, and made in the USA-literally right around the corner from me. Also, I love that I'm able to make my own colors by mixing the powered pigments myself.
So for this trunk, I wanted a grey-green color, not too dark. I combined equal parts of the Bayberry Green and Driftwood, with one quarter part Snow White. It looked dark in the bucket, but once I painted it on...
it had that grey-green that I was looking for...
After it dried, which is extremely fast, I sanded the edges and normal wear places..

Ok, back to the buffet and the other waiting projects!
Happy Friday!!

Packaging

It's always nice to package a gift in a unique way,  isn't it?

For Halloween, how about giving one of these old Epicure Salted Codfish boxes-that's the trick!
then have it filled with goodies, like candy corns-that's the treat!
The box top slides off to the right, and is held tight with a piece of stretchy black cord and a vintage white button.
How about these vintage cardboard boxes? They were originally used for storing special Christmas ornaments, but now they could hold just about any small gifts or candy.
These never-been-used boxes come with a length of stretchy black cord and a large vintage wooden button.

I just brought these items into The Spaulding Cooperage. Hurry in to get them before they're all gone.

Enjoy!

Dumpster Diving...once again!

Look what I found sitting next to the dumpster at a local gas station....
...a vintage white wire display stand! All it needed was a lot of cleaning. (You should have seen the guys faces at the station when I asked them if I
could have it...'you want that??'...haha, priceless!

The shelves are angled, so what I thought of first was...towel storage in the bathroom...

But for now, it'll go to the shop to hold some of my hand made pillows.
Hope you had a happy surprise in your day too!

A 'Neutral' Flea

I made it to the flea market this morning! The skies were looking very grey, and the roads were wet...but yay, there were dealers there!
Love this bird crate! I had made one into a coffee table before with casters and a piece of glass. This one will probably become another one.
Picked up these never used folded boxes. They have the best sepia color on them. And check out the font on the carpenters leather covered wind up tape measure...
Spools of vintage rick rack, a huge jar of white & cream buttons, a box of large wooden buttons...
...unused (old?) wooden utensils...
...a vintage brass wire display stand...
...a pair of wrought iron candle stakes...

...and the 'Favorite Find'?

Another vintage bird carrier! This one has curved corners, slatted rails, wood pieced bottom and a wire pin which allows the door to slide open. This will make a very unique coffee table, don't you think?

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!!

Industrial Inspired Pumpkins

I posted this teaser picture earlier in the week....I found these at Micheal's. Last year I decorated foam pumpkins with water slide decals of spiders and webs from the Martha Stewart collection, but this year, I needed something different. (Are you like this too? I rarely use or decorate the same holiday/season as the previous year)
I had picked up these boxes of upholstery tacks and brass nail heads at the flea market this summer. I didn't know what I was going to do with them, but I knew that inspiration would strike at some point. Also at Micheal's they had these felted flower die cuts in shades of black, dark grey and light grey.

With a pencil, I lightly drew a design on this white pumpkin and started pushing in the upholstery tacks, then added a grey flower every 6th one to create this pattern. I did a bunch of pumpkins, all different....
This one has the brass nail heads with only the black flowers behind...
...this one has the brass nail heads by themselves inserted vertically, and the one on the right has only upholstery tacks going in a spiral from the stem...
...close up of the upholstery tacks...
...this black one has randomly placed upholstery tacks with all three colors of the flowers...
I love how they look together!
I'm sure these designs would also work great on real pumpkins.
Show me how you're decorating your pumpkins this year! I'd love to see!

Enjoy!

Uninterrupted Time

Don't get me wrong...I love my kids, and I love summer...but, when the seasons change, and they go back to school...I get to create without interruption! There's no 'Mom, where is _____?', 'Mom, what are we going to do today?', 'Mom, can you take me to _______'s house or can they come over?', 'Mom, can I have some money for _____?', 'Mom, what can I have to eat?'.  I know, I know. Soon enough I will not be hearing that, as they will be heading to college sooner than I think.
But for today, I am savoring my first week of school time.
Here's what I've been up to...
 ...pillow projects...
...pumpkin projects....
....packet (seed) projects....

I'll share the projects when they are completed.

If your kids have gone back to school, like mine,
I hope you are enjoying some 'uninterrupted' time too!
